Happy Candy Corn DIY

With Halloween upon us, I decided to make some fun, cute, and spooky felt hair accessories.

Below you'll find an easy tutorial for the sweet, kawaii candy corn.  Making the candy corn takes about 10-15 minutes depending on your hand-stitching skills.

You'll need the following:

  • Orange Felt (2.5" x 1.25")
  • Yellow Felt (3" x 1.5")
  • White Felt (6" x 6")
  • Orange, yellow, white, and black thread or embroidery floss
  • Black buttons (not sure which brand or type, sorry!)
  • Pattern pieces
  • Barrette, clips, or whatever finish you'd like

Download the pattern and cut out the corresponding pieces of felt that's marked on said pattern.

Cut out one piece each of yellow and orange felt, and two pieces of white felt. Set one white felt piece aside.  (You'll need that at the very end.)  This is what should be infront of you.

Stitch yellow felt piece onto one piece of white felt with yellow thread.

Stitch orange felt piece above the yellow piece with orange thread.

Stitch the smile and eyes on.  You can follow my guides on the pattern or place it where you'd like.  You can even turn the candy corn upside down and place the face on that way.

The orange felt with black threads shows what different thread thickness looks like.  The top three are using basic black thread, the bottom two are using embroidery floss strands.

The back of your piece probably looks like this so far.  I knotted the threads together in order for it to look better.  You can also use some glue to hold the ends down if you'd like it more secure.

Once everything is stitched on the way you like, take your second piece of white felt and place it against your stitched up candy corn.  Using the white thread, poke through the top layer in order to hide the end of the thread.

Stitch the two white pieces of felt together without including the orange or yellow pieces of felt. Look at the following pictures to see how.

Once finished the back should look like this. Knot the thread where you began stitching.

And here's the front.

With it finished you can glue it onto a barrette or headband or add a pin back to make a cute brooch.

If you like the cute candy piece but don't have the time to make your own, head over to my etsy shop to check it out!  Also, I ask that you do not sell finished items or this pattern.  Thanks!
